Negotiations are underway in the World Trade Organisation to open up public services for private companies. Public services previously provided by governments, such as health and education for example, are under pressure. State owned institutions and companies are being privatised and required to make a profit. In Switzerland, post services are threatened, particularly in remote mountain areas. This discussion revealed the connection between these developments at the national level and international negotiations, and discussed possibilities for resisting the erosion of public services.
