Bilateral Free Trade Agreements between Switzerland and Developing Countries

With WTO-negotiations practically at a standstill, northern trading powers are pushing regional free trade agreements with selected developing countries.

As a member of EFTA (together with Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland), Switzerland, too, is busy concluding such agreements. In many respects the provisions of such agreements greatly exceed WTO-rules and benefit primarily Swiss pharmaceutical and seed companies, as well as banks and insurances.
